after i had elias, and dave went back to work, it was just me and my newborn babe. everyday we had the same routine. i'd get up, nurse elias back to sleep, then shower. i'd throw sweats back on, let my hair air dry, grab some food, then plop myself down in front of the tv, where i'd nurse elias until he fell asleep and watch episode after episode of gossip girl. i watched all 6 seasons in about a months time. embarrassing? maybe a little. but not really. it was the dead middle of winter, way too cold to take a newborn anywhere and c section recovery was brutal. plus, i had JUST HAD A BABY. i was allowed a little tv time. okay.. a lot of tv time.
anyway.. my point to all of this, is to state that i've wanted to try macarons ever since i learned of blair waldorf's obsession with them. there are multiple scenes of her receiving macarons as gifts, buying herself macarons "just because", talking about how much she loves macarons, eating macarons in her big bathtub, eating macarons in France.. you get the picture. macarons are her favorite. and for whatever reason, i've always wanted to try them.
so, when i received these macarons from Shari's Berries last week, i was instantly taken back to my gossip girl days and for a moment i was blair waldorf, living in the upper east side of manhattan, with a trillion dollars in my bank account and not a care in the world. but then i heard elias cry and well.. i realized, i wasn't blair waldorf. oh well. i still couldn't wait to try them though. i put elias down for a nap, poured a glass of milk and set out to try each one. now, if you know me, you know that dave and i don't normally buy or eat non fair trade certified chocolate. but these were a gift from them, so i allowed myself to indulge. and as a mama, indulging in chocolate every once in a while is absolutely necessary. especially when you're baby WON'T STOP TEETHING. amiright?
when i received them in the mail, i popped them in the fridge (as recommended) until i was ready to try them, then took them out and let them get to room temperature. the texture of each macaron was perfect. they were soft, not too sweet and just the perfect little pick me up while baby napped. each flavor was so delicious, but my favorite was the chocolate covered molten ones. the shell was just a little crunchy, but the inside was soft and moist. i was seriously so sad when i ate the last one.
thank you again, Shari's Berries for the treat and making my blair waldorf's dreams come true. they were as yummy as i had hoped and cuter than i imagined they'd be. and right now, they're offering 15% off site wide, just in time for valentines day. grab something for your friend, spouse, fellow mama or for you!
